Robson Arms

Robson ArmsHit TV show Robson Arms, now in it's 3rd season, hired me to edit a series of videos entitled, The Question, which I worked on during the last couple months of 2007. Cutting together cast and crew interviews, behind the scenes footage and scenes from upcoming shows, we really wanted to do something different, make them funny and upbeat. The theme of each video coincides with each week's new episode, and will be released concurrently.

The Question, produced by Jason James, is an Omni Film production for CTV.

Another Turn to Photography

Wall in SpainFor those who don't know me especially well, you might be interested to learn that photography was my earliest artistic medium that most directly lead to film editing. High school was my initiation, spending my days snapping shots of all us outcasts in our unnatural habitat, then developing my own film and prints in class. From there I continued with college courses for two years, all Black & White, and had a number of photos exhibited in student shows. As life took me many places, meandering if you will, I continued shooting as a hobbyist at best, and sadly had to sell my 35mm SLR to help pay rent. In Montreal, I bought my second camera, which enabled my best period of work, however minimal. But again I had to sell the camera when times got tough. Now more financially stable, third time is charmed by my first Digital SLR. I'm not sure what type of shooting I will focus on- mostly did urban still life in the past- but I think I would like to try my hand more at candid portraiture.

Oh right, as for the connection to film editing, shooting photos eventually led to shooting video, which in turn led to video editing. And the rest is history, in the making.

Get Connected

Get Connected, TV SeriesAs the saying goes, it's who you know in this biz, and once again my connections came through when I needed work. I got connected to the lifestyle television series "Get Connected" by my friend and colleague Andrea Wing, who is the Producer. The powers that be at Blink Media Works apparently liked my panache, and hired me to edit the series.

Update: just locked the first episode! 3 weeks and down to the wire, phew! It was a bumpy ride trying to get everything done: cutting the segments and developing a style for the show; getting held up waiting for graphics and music; gutting out chunks of the show, and replacing with stronger segments; writing, re-writing, re-shooting. And it's finally done. On to the next episodes...

You’re starting a film school where??

Veteran filmmaker Tony Papa has been collaborating with several industry professionals over the last year to open a film school in Powell River, BC, and opening day is 1 week from today, Feb. 4th, 2008! I was bestowed with the privilege of designing the school's HD production workflow, and will also be teaching the post-production course.

We decided to go with 3 Canon XH-A1 cameras and 5 of Apple's latest Quad-Core Mac Pros for the basis of our workflow. Students will learn all steps of the filmmaking process, from both aesthetic and technical perspectives, gaining the necessary knowledge to use technology as storytelling artists. Accomplished, talented writers, cinematographers, editors and other crew will present an exciting, rewarding introduction to the film world. Students then have the opportunity of guaranteed admission to Capilano College if they should choose to further pursue film studies. Roll sound... roll camera... and action!

Once Upon an Avid

'Twas a dark and stormy night. The wind bit violently and howled like wolves. In the thick of the downpour, an ambiguous figure darted through the streets, dodging squealing taxicabs, leaping over swallowing puddles, and glancing over his shoulder every few seconds, watchful of the countless junkies and thugs who own the night in these slums.
