About
Hello, I am Eliot, and Hand Cut Films is my operation. In an age of digital editing, the name stems from my belief that crafts are best done by hand: compare antique furniture or a potter's masterful collection with today's ubiquitous Made in China brands. Filmmaking is no different in that each project is unique and deserves a fresh yet seasoned set of eyes and hands. Thereby my goal in the cutting room is to be creative, precise and deliberate, while maintaining a professional, knowledgable and time-sensitive approach throughout the course of each project.
Hand Cut Films is essentially one person, me (a freelancer), plus a very strong network of talented directors, producers, sound designers, composers, visual effects artists, assistant editors, and even other editors, whom I work with on a regular basis and sub-contract on an as needed basis. Personally I am a freelance artist of many forms, mostly working as an editor, colourist and online editor in Vancouver's film & television industry.
Having worked with many of Vancouver's top production and post-production companies, I have become an expert in post-production, specializing in high-end broadcast television and film. I focus my profession primarily as an editor, because to me editing is where the magic of filmmaking is fully realized. This is a natural fit, because I am able to sit for long periods of time without food, sunlight or oxygen.
Originally from the States, I now happily live in Vancouver, BC. By living in many great cities and travelling extensively throughout Europe, the U.S., Mexico, and even a little in Africa, I have gained invaluable life experience, which contributes to my perspective as an editor, and of course as a human being. This awareness is key in relating to the many types of stories I construct, and helps me better understand my audience by better understanding myself and my place in the world.
